Your induction

All new starters take part in a two day induction course and then an individual induction programme determined by their department, role and previous work experience.

Ongoing training

We encourage all staff to take responsibility for their own development and to work with their line manager to agree a personal development plan each year. In addition to compulsory regulatory training, every member of staff also has access to a wide range of courses in standard and NHBC-specific IT software as well as 'softer' skills such as effective presentation and written/verbal communications.

Technical excellence

We pride ourselves on the knowledge and expertise of our technical staff. Their contribution is essential to our core aim of raising standards in new home building. The NHBC Operations Academy trains new Building Inspectors and other staff in NHBC Standards and Building Regulations. We also support the ongoing professional development of our staff by paying for subscriptions to more than 70 professional membership organisations.

Developing future leaders

Supporting managers and developing those who aspire to be managers is an essential part of our continued success. We work with specialist training providers to deliver recognised management qualifications to managers and potential managers to provide staff with all the tools required to progress their careers.

Planning for retirement

As colleagues head towards the end of their career, we offer them the chance to attend a pre-retirement workshop, with their partner, to help them plan for retirement and old age.
