NHBC Operations Recruitment Campaign

'Investing in our people; planning for growth.'

NHBC is continuing its ambitious growth programme due to continued expansion, and further opportunities are now available.

NHBC has created over 100 new frontline technical jobs in one of the biggest recruitment drives in our company's history - and we are recruiting again now, as we enter phase two of our campaign.

With house-building volumes rising and the industry showing sustained growth, this landmark recruitment campaign will help NHBC to provide extra support and guidance to our builder customers as they strive to meet the growing demand for new, quality homes the UK needs.

Why are we recruiting?

NHBC is the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK. Our Buildmark warranty covers around 80 percent of new homes built in the UK, having covered nearly eight million homes since it began and currently protecting around 1.6 million homes. We exist as a company to raise the quality standards of UK new-build homes - and our technical staff are essential in us achieving this purpose.

NHBC new home registrations in the UK for 2013 were up 28 percent compared to the previous year, with signs of a broad-based recovery around the UK and the highest new house building volumes in London for a generation.

With the industry stabilising, and business growing, our builder customers are telling us that they are ready to increase their output of new homes still further. Last financial year NHBC carried out more than 600,000 inspections, and demand for our services is increasing. We are acting now to make sure we're properly staffed to provide the best service possible.

We're investing heavily in the recruitment of frontline technical staff to get ahead of the curve, in order to better support our builder customers in maintaining on-site quality. We're also taking on more claims investigation and training staff as well.

Ultimately, this will translate into better quality houses for homeowners.

What roles are we recruiting for?

The recruitment campaign created over 100 new frontline technical roles, including building inspectors, surveyors, engineers, special project managers and new management roles.

The first phase of the campaign has gone very well, with three new cohorts of building inspectors joining NHBC already ¿ but there are roles still to be filled, as well as new ones now on offer.

All of these roles are essential to NHBC's quality control of the new homes being built in the UK today, ensuring that the appropriate support is available for builders and their teams - both on site and during the design stage.

The new posts available are:

  • Building Inspectors
  • Principal Commercial Surveyor
  • Special Risk Project Manager
  • Commercial Surveyors (multiple)
  • Principal Engineers (multiple)
  • Senior/ Building Surveyors (multiple)
  • Senior Engineers (multiple)
Mobile Quality Team - a new approach to quality assurance

The recruitment campaign created a Mobile Quality Team that is trained to work anywhere in the country on any type of work, supporting those builders who have asked for extra inspection assistance and covering 'hot spot' areas where our services are in high demand.

A number of the Building Inspector vacancies still on offer are based within this new team.

Improved industry training

We're also recruiting more training staff to work both internally with our new inspection trainees, and externally with our builder customers:

  • Trainer - Technical Services (Engineering specialist)
  • Training Academy Senior Administration Assistant
Helping homeowners

We are recruiting frontline technical staff to make sure quality is maintained but, as an insurance and warranty provider, we remain on hand to help homeowners on the occasions when things don¿t go to plan.

We're also therefore recruiting staff into our claims investigation and handling teams:

  • Claims Investigation staff
  • Claims Investigation management staff
  • Claims Handling staff

We have a variety of opportunities to join our Claims team, whether you are looking for a role based from home where you are responsible for the delivery of a highly effective claims investigation, dispute resolution and repair service or are looking for a role based at our office in Milton Keynes from where you will handle claims, provide in-depth technical claims assessment and specialist insurance advice, you can certainly look forward to a constant variety of challenges.

All of these positions are essential in making sure homeowners continue to get the service they deserve.
