Corporate Responsibility in the Marketplace

Marketplace image 1Having a positive influence on the wider house-building industry is a fundamental part of NHBC’s role - from fulfilling our core purpose of raising construction standards for new homeowners, to ensuring the fair treatment of our suppliers.

Here are some of the ways we support our key customers and other businesses:

Raising the standard of new homes for homeowners is at the heart of what we do.

As well as providing NHBC’s 10-year Buildmark warranty and insurance, which protects more than 1.6 million homes in the UK against incomplete and faulty construction, NHBC invests in a series of initiatives that aim to reinforce protection for homebuyers and help the house-building industry to improve customer satisfaction.

NHBC was instrumental in the Callcutt Task Group on Customer Satisfaction to work with the industry to help improve customer service for new homebuyers and continues to work closely with the house building industry measuring and monitoring customer satisfaction.

NHBC also provides comprehensive 10-year protection through Buildmark Choice, a warranty designed specifically for social housing schemes.

House builders

An essential part of NHBC’s role is to raise standards to protect homeowners, which is achieved through a number of activities focussing on informing and guiding house builders and developers.

This includes:

  • Research
NHBC research arm, The NHBC Foundation, continues to deliver practical guidance to house builders, primarily targeting the Zero Carbon homes agenda
  • Essential Services
NHBC provides a range of services to help builders deliver on site, from our established services such as Training, Health and Safety and Inspection, to new sustainability led services, including assessments for the Code for Sustainable homes and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)
  • Feedback
NHBC’s quarterly Major Builder Reports provide valuable data and feedback on their performance, including the area customer satisfaction, to help builders raise standards on site

As a national company dealing with hundreds of external suppliers, NHBC prides itself on conducting business in an ethical way - from paying bills on time, to evaluating the environmental impact of our supply chain activities.

As well as ensuring companies meet the criteria of our procurement policy, we check they have sound environmental and social credentials before becoming a preferred NHBC supplier.
