How we can help

For over ten years, NHBC has been a leading provider of residential Energy Ratings for both new build and conversion developments. Our service uses the latest assessment procedures to help you meet the growing regulatory and legislative demands relating to energy and sustainability performance.

  • SAP ratings
We support your building control submission, providing DER v TER calculations and SAP ratings.  With electronic delivery of certificates we save you time, and offer electronic order forms to help you provide the details for larger sites.

  • Energy Performance Certificates (EPC)
All assessors are OCDEA accredited so our long-standing energy rating service now includes EPCs. These are required by building control and the home purchaser.
  • Energy reports for planning
Planners often set conditions for higher level Code compliance or for a renewable energy quota. We offer renewables feasibility studies to help you plan effectively, or an energy report to satisfy conditions.
  • Consultancy advice
Our independent advice will show how to meet your targets and assist in the selection of the most cost-effective, low-risk solution to improve your rating. Services can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each development, with guidance throughout the planning, design and construction phases.
  • SBEM
Our specially trained assessors also cover the 'Simplified Building Energy Method'  - for communal parts of flatted developments where communal heating is provided, and for a variety of non-residential buildings.

  • Air leakage testing
Part L1a 2010 (England and Wales) now requires a greater  percentage of dwellings to be tested. Our Energy rating team provide a joined up service with our Building Control team and UKAS-accredited air leakage testing.
  • Training - Energy for the Code
Our highly rated training course on the Code for Sustainable Homes is now complemented by the Energy course.
  • The Code for Sustainable Homes (energy requirements at all levels)
NHBC is a leading provider of sustainability assessments (BREEAM, EcoHomes and the Code) and our energy assessors are specifically trained in the corresponding energy requirements.
  • Predicted Energy Assessments (PEA)
Home Information Packs (HIP) required a PEA based on information from the SAP assessment.  As the need for a HIP was suspended in May 2010, PEAs are no longer necessary.
  • NHER
NHERs are ideal for housing associations and others wanting information on overall energy consumption.  We also provide energy rating calculations and supporting documentation for all developments which fall outside of the requirements of Approved Document Part L1A (England & Wales) or Section 6 - Energy (Scottish Building Standards) or Section F (Northern Ireland).

Additional services

To save you time, we share results with NHBC building control and can integrate with NHBC air leakage testing.

  • Linked to that, the NHBC compliance solution combines building contol and energy ratings with ALT, to provide a cost-effective and efficient way to achieve compliance.  Details on the compliance solution are here.
  • Use our NHBC Extranet to submit documents to NHBC -  you could save up to 70% compared to 'snail mail'.
