Part R - Physical Infrastructure for High Speed Electronics Networks - Transitional provisions published (England and Wales)

The English and Welsh Governments have both published details of the transitional provisions for Part R - Physical Infrastructure for High Speed Electronic Networks - which comes into force on 1 January 2017 in both England and Wales.

From 1 January 2017, newly erected buildings and those subject to ‘major renovation’ in both England and Wales will be required to have in-building physical infrastructure, so that, in future, copper or fibre-optic cables or wireless devices capable of receiving broadband speeds greater than 30 Mbps, can be installed.

Transitional Provisions – England and Wales

For both the English and Welsh editions of Part R the requirement for physical infrastructure for high-speed electronic networks will not apply to building work which is the subject of an initial notice, amendment notice, building notice or full plans submission which is served before 1 January 2017.
