Site Manager Accreditation ProgrammeA three stage assessment programme with annual re-accreditation
It is essential for site managers to be up-to-date with industry changes, abreast of new or amended regulations and at the top of their game when it comes to build quality on site.
Our Site Manager Accreditation Programme (SMAP) gives site managers the opportunity to update their knowledge and prove their competence to current or future employers.
Suitable for
Site managers who:
- have responsibility for a home-building site or who manage a discrete part of a larger project
- hold a platinum/black CSCS card or appropriate professional qualification card
- have internet access and an individual email address.
Benefits of accreditation
Once accredited, site managers in the programme get the benefit of a qualification from a trusted industry partner. In addition, they can stay on top of best practice with:
- access to an online CPD programme, for continuing very low cost and accessible training
- low cost access to CIOB CPD programmes
- discounts on selected NHBC training courses.
First 1,000 places free
Site managers employed by NHBC registered builders and managing a site registered for NHBC warranty are eligible for a free place on the programme for the first year. This is limited to the first 1,000 places. Annual renewal thereafter is £45.
Site managers not employed by an NHBC registered builder are also welcome to join the programme. Please call 0844 633 1000 and ask for 'Training' for more details.

The process of accreditation
Accreditation consists of 3 stages:
- CSCS card check- applicant must hold a platinum/black CSCScard or other appropriate professional qualification card
- a site quality check - for NHBC warranty sites, this will be through the inspection service
- online assessment - for initial accreditation, site managers will be required to complete and pass an extensive online assessment via the NHBC Learning Hub assessing technical, managerial and NHBC procedural knowledge.
Annual re-accreditation
Re-accreditation will be required every year with repeat of the CSCS check, site quality check and shorter assessment of current technical knowledge.
The Chartered Institute of Building
We have agreed special arrangements with the Chartered Institute of Building for accredited site managers.
Accredited site managers, who are not members of CIOB and who are not undertaking a formal programme of study leading to membership can still access the CIOB CPD network by joining as Student Members. The fee for this is £21 per year. After two years it is a requirement that managers would commence a formal programme of study if they wish to retain their student membership.

Reduced costs on initial membership to CIOB is also available for accredited managers. Accredited site managers who have appropriate qualifications may wish to join CIOB at Associate, Incorporate or Member level. CIOB will waive the Admission Fee of £59 for accredited site managers.
