Packing

Planning your packing beforehand will make unpacking quicker and easier.

  • Collect boxes well in advance of your moving date and check the bases of the boxes are secure.
  • Use plenty of wrapping paper and bubble wrap for breakable items.
  • Don't overpack your boxes - keep the weight to a level you can manage.
  • Clearly label all of your boxes, for example using different colour stickers for each room of the house. Having the right boxes in the right rooms before you start unpacking makes the job a lot easier!
  • Take a separate box containing the kettle, tea, coffee, milk and mugs so you can easily make refreshments throughout the day.
  • Label one box full of things you will need for the next day, e.g. clothes, toiletries.
  • Defrost fridges and freezers so they are clear of ice on the day of the move.
  • Put important documents in a safe place and keep them with you when you move, e.g. passports, driving licence, money, valuable items, medicines.
