The NHBC Rules

With effect from 1 February 2018, NHBC is revising the NHBC Rules for builders and developers registered with NHBC. In January 2018, we wrote to all NHBC registered builders and developers, to give full details of the changes. If you did not receive your letter, or would like a copy, please contact us.

The key changes are:

  • Rules 8 & 17: these Rules will cease to apply, so that it is clear that NHBC registered builders and developers are free to register with any other providers of new home warranty products and use the new home warranty products of these alternative providers, instead of NHBC’s new home warranty.
  • Rule 47: this Rule is amended to expressly state that NHBC registered builders and developers must comply with the Consumer Code for Home Builders scheme. Note: Compliance with the Consumer Code for Home Builders scheme was made a condition of NHBC registration when the scheme was first launched.
