The champions of the 2011 Pride in the Job Awards, run by NHBC (National House-Building Council), were selected from a shortlist of 32 regional winners and revealed last Friday (13 January) at a special event held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London, hosted by glamorous TV presenter Denise Van Outen. They beat around 13,000 other site managers across the UK working on projects registered with NHBC, the UK's leading new-home warranty and insurance provider, to take the title in their builder-size categories. The winners are:

  • Bill Hughes of Miller Homes Ltd North West, who won the Large Builder category for the fifth time for his Whittle Le Park development in Buckshaw Village in Chorley, Lancashire; Bill, an Evertonian, has won multiple awards over the years, this time again taking home the top prize for his effective management of a fast-moving, mixed-type site which includes both low-rise residential homes and apartments blocks
  • Stuart Gillespie of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes Ltd, who won the Medium Builder category for his Marr Meadows site in Barassie in Troon, South Ayrshire; a three-time Seal of Excellence winner and a 2010 Regional champion, Stuart has worked the entirety of his 20 year house-building career with the same company and has now gone one better in securing his first Supreme win
  • George Lattimer of family business Lattimer Homes, who won the Small Builder category for an unprecedented eighth time for his Sheila Fell Close site in Aspatria, in Wigton in Cumbria; George is Pride in the Job's most prolific winner, gaining over 50 awards in the Small Builder category over a 15 year period
  • Damian Barden of Telford Homes Ltd, who won the Multi-storey Builder category for his Creekside Village West development in Deptford, London; he is proud to help enhance his companies brand through his build quality and achieving high levels of customer satisfaction, and this year won his first Supreme Award for his efforts

Pride in the Job is the only awards scheme to reward site managers for the unique contribution they make to the house-building process, being responsible for delivering high quality homes by directing projects from start to finish.

Imtiaz Farookhi, NHBC Chief Executive, said:

"NHBC has worked to raise the standard of new homes in the UK for the last 75 years. Pride in the Job has been instrumental for much of that time in raising the build quality of new homes in the UK for over three decades, with house-builders now routinely striving for perfection in their work.

"Despite tough times, UK house-builders are still creating the best new homes, which are more energy efficient and finished to higher standards than ever before. A Pride in the Job award at any level marks the recipient out as a top performer, showing their commitment to producing the best quality homes possible, but winning a national title makes these site managers exemplars in their field."
