Construction industry honours youngsters at Youthbuild Awards 2012

The 2012 Youthbuild Young Builder of the Year Awards, sponsored once again by NHBC, have taken place to acknowledge the efforts of young people in the construction industry.

Youthbuild, which started in 2000, provides construction training and employment for young people who have frequently come from disadvantageous backgrounds.

To date more than 5,000 young people have been helped by the scheme, with the latest set of award winners honoured today (Thurs 18th) at the House of Commons in London.

Speaking at the event NHBC Commercial Director Richard Tamayo said: "Youthbuild, by providing a bridge into the industry and by enabling young people to develop necessary skills, is a fantastic way to have a positive impact on the quality of future construction.

"It is important that we continue to attract young people into the house-building and wider construction industry.  There remains a huge demand for homes for our growing population and it takes skilled tradesmen/women and professionals to be able to build the homes that this country needs."
