The winners of the hotly-contested competition's five builder-size categories were recognised for their outstanding achievements in building new houses of exceptional quality, beating around 13,000 others from across the nation to be crowned as 2012's Supreme Winners.

This year's victors in the Pride in the Job Awards run by NHBC (National House-Building Council), the UK's leading new-home warranty and insurance provider, were revealed on Friday 11 January at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London, at a black-tie dinner hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre. The winners are:

Syd James of Redrow Homes South Wales

Syd won the Large Builder category for the first time for his Glynderwen Meadows development in Oakdale, Gwent; Syd's win is the latest step in a run stretching back to 2008, culminating in him becoming the 2011 and 2012 Welsh champion in his category, and now winning his first Supreme Award.

Marcus Blake of St George South London

Marcus won the Multistorey Builder category for overseeing the construction of The Tower at St George Wharf in Vauxhall, London; Another first-time Supreme Winner, Marcus has an excellent track record in awards victories, having won the national title in NHBC's Health and Safety Awards in 2011 as well.

Steve Cook of Yuill Homes

Steve won the Medium Builder category for the site management of College Gardens in Billingham, Cleveland; Steve, who has worked in housebuilding for 26 years, the last nine of those for Yuill Homes, followed up two first-round Quality Awards in 2010 and 2011 with his first Supreme title this year.

Michael Thomas of South Meadow Homes

Michael won the Small Builder category for his work on the build of Gibbas Way in Pembroke; Michael, who started working for family-run company South Meadow Homes eighteen years ago, has enjoyed great success in Pride in the Job previously, being a multiple Regional champion and runner-up to last year's Supreme Winner, going one better this year.

Simon Morganti of Royalton Ltd

Simon  became the first ever Single Home winner in the category's debut year, for managing the build of Red Lodge in Englefield Green, Surrey; the category was introduced in order to make Pride in the Job truly open to all of NHBC's registered builder customers, and Simon took the inaugural award for his work on a very complex project in creating a luxury home in an exclusive area.

Judged at national level by independent industry experts, Pride in the Job is the only awards scheme to reward site managers for the unique contribution they make to the house-building process, being responsible for delivering high quality homes by directing projects from start to finish.

Mike Quinton, NHBC Chief Executive, said:

"Pride in the Job has been a lynchpin in NHBC's work to raise the build quality of new homes in the UK for over three decades. It is the first Awards I have been to since my appointment last Autumn, and it is fantastic to see just how much winning a Supreme Award or not means to site managers all over the UK. It is this competitive drive which has made Pride in the job the success it is, over such a long period."
