Mr Vernon-Jackson, who is contesting the seat of Portsmouth South in the upcoming General Election, met with representatives from NHBC and the developers, Bellway, at their Guardians Gate development. The development provides a variety of traditional house styles to suit a range of tastes. Fifty-five affordable homes will also be provided, for which Bellway have adopted water recycling measures.

The event was organised by NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK. NHBC's Head of Corporate and External Affairs, Lewis Sidnick, said: "We're delighted to be able to show Gerald Vernon-Jackson first-hand NHBC's risk management processes and how we are helping builders to construct high quality new homes that meet building regulations in Portsmouth South."

Mr Vernon-Jackson commented: "It has been really good to see the types of housing that are being built for Portsmouth residents. It is so important that the homes being built here are suitable for modern day living whilst keeping traditional housing in mind."

Ian Beal, Managing Director for Bellway Homes Wessex Region said: "This has been a very successful development from the day it was opened with 47 private homes already sold

He added: "Fourteen of the affordable homes have also been sold and it was a pleasure to welcome Mr Vernon-Jackson and the NHBC to see this very impressive scheme being built for the residents of Portsmouth."

Nick Cunningham, NHBC Regional Director Southern, highlighted the state of the local housing market: "The number of homes registered with NHBC in the Portsmouth South constituency has grown over the last few years and we are delighted to see this community grow. NHBC has worked for over 75 years to raise standards in house-building to protect homeowners, and will continue to work with builders like Bellway and Parliamentarians to ensure that the build quality of the new homes needed in the UK is high."

Comprising of two, three and four-bedroom homes, the Bellway Guardians Gate development suits a range of needs and is ideally located close to Portsmouth city centre. Prices range from £284,995 to £349,995 and all plots are afforded a garage and/or parking, along with a landscaped garden. Furthermore, the Government¿s flagship Help to Buy scheme is available, providing homeowners with an equity loan of up to 20% of the value of a new home in Guardians Gate.

Guardians Gate residents will have excellent access to nearby motorway networks, with Fratton Railway Station also providing convenient and regular services to Brighton and London. Additionally, a range of quality schools are in close proximity to Guardians Gate and cater for students aged two to 19-years-of-age.
