Ms Heidi Allen, who is contesting the seat of South Cambridgeshire in the upcoming General Election, met with representatives from NHBC and the developers, Barratt, at their Summers Field development. Set among landscaped open spaces with its own children¿s play area, and close to excellent schools, the development is ideal for families.

The event was organised by NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, to highlight its risk management processes and to show the parliamentary candidate a prime example of modern, family homes designed to meet current building regulations.

Ms Allen said: "The housing need is huge in South Cambs, so I am particularly interested in working closely with developers to ensure we get the right mix of quality housing here. That means the right location, the right size and with affordability and accessibility an integral part of all developments. I want us to work together as positive partners to achieve that goal. Good development cannot just be a commercial argument."

Andrew Swindell, Barratt Homes Northampton Managing Director, said: "We were pleased to welcome Ms Allen to Summer Field. This is a fantastic opportunity for her to understand the hard work and technical skill that goes into every one of our new homes."

Ólöf Jónsdóttir, NHBC's Public Affairs Manager said: "NHBC registered 145,174 new homes for development in 2014 across the UK, up 9% on 2013, with research showing that 245,000 homes are needed every year to meet demand. As supply grows to meet this need, it is vital that we continue to deliver on standards, and NHBC will work with the industry and Parliamentarians to ensure that the build quality of new homes in the UK remains high."

Richard Hartshorn, NHBC's Regional Director for the East of England, said: "NHBC figures show that there were 561 new homes being built last year in the South Cambridgeshire constituency, up by nearly 50% on the 380 homes built in 2012. We are delighted to see this community grow with this huge boost in new homes over the last couple of years. NHBC has worked for 80 years to raise standards in house-building, and we are delighted to be able to show Heidi Allen first-hand how we are helping builders to construct high quality new homes in South Cambridgeshire."
