Thomas Docherty MP today visited a new housing development in his constituency that is protected by NHBC's 10 year Buildmark Cover and which when completed will deliver 121 much needed new family homes for the local area.

Mr Docherty met with representatives from NHBC and the developers, Barratt and David Wilson Homes East Scotland, at their Bluebell Meadows development in Dunfermline. The developer highlighted the skills shortages that are adversely affecting the industry, whilst demonstrating how they are supporting the training of Apprenticeships to address this.

The event was organised by NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, to highlight its risk management processes and to show the Labour MP a prime example of modern family homes which are designed to high levels of energy efficiency.

Thomas Docherty MP for Dunfermline & West Fife, said: "This is an excellent example of how responsible and appropriate home-building can benefit our local communities. Not only does this development provide quality family homes, which will be well served by local amenities, the developers¿ support for Apprenticeships means new opportunities for young people and our local economy. Ahead of National Apprenticeships Week it is fantastic to see in practice the sort of skills based training that I have supported and encouraged across West Fife throughout my time as an MP."

NHBC's Head of Corporate and External Affairs, Lewis Sidnick, added: "We're delighted to be able to show Thomas Docherty first-hand how we are helping builders to construct high quality new homes in Dunfermline and West Fife."

Brian McCalmont, construction director at Barratt Homes, said: "Mr Docherty's visit was a great opportunity for us to show him the work we are currently doing to create Apprenticeships in the East of Scotland. Our Apprenticeships are designed to give young people the skills they need to have a successful career within the building industry."

Comprising of three and four bedroom homes, the development is designed for families who will be well serviced by local amenities and with excellent schools nearby, including Carnegie Primary School and Nursery; Duloch Primary School and Nursery; and St.Columba¿s High School.

The final phase at Bluebell Meadows has now been released, with a number of four bedroom homes expected to be completed this spring. Conveniently located, the development is just a 20-minute commute from Edinburgh and close to the beautiful Pittencrieff Park and Duloch leisure park. Prices range from £198,995 to £269,995.
