Situated in Browney, Broadmeadows will improve the housing supply in Durham with 271 quality new three and four bedroom homes - 54 of which will be available on an affordable basis.

The Avant Homes development also supports over 400 full time jobs including three apprentices who will have the opportunity to continue to full time employment.

Sought-after by growing families and commuting professionals, Browney is a lovely village in County Durham, just 2 miles from Durham itself. The area offers a wealth of leisure, entertainment and cultural facilities in beautiful surroundings.

The event was organised by NHBC and Avant Homes to showcase high quality new homes in the North East.

The visit comes after NHBC, the UK's leading new home warranty and insurance provider, recently released annual figures showing that 5,800 new homes were registered to be built in the North East in 2015 – a 9% growth on the previous year.

Geoff Egginton, NHBC Regional Director for the North East, said: "We are delighted to be able to show Ms Blackman-Woods this great development. Avant Homes are providing much-needed new family homes including 54 affordable units for the people of Durham. Broadmeadows will be a fantastic development for the area which is being built to a very hard standard and includes the benefit of NHBC's world-leading 10 year warranty.

"The North East enjoyed a good year for house building and we hope this continues. As the UK's leading insurance and warranty provider of new homes, NHBC works closely with house builders to support the delivery of high quality homes, and with Parliamentarians to develop and promote good housing policy."

Shadow Housing and Planning Minister Roberta Blackman-Woods MP said: "I am extremely pleased that I have had the chance to visit this development today. Not only is it providing much needed housing that is of a high standard, but it has also created 400 full time jobs in our community. I am particularly glad that this includes some apprenticeships, as it is vital that developments in Durham not only tackle our housing needs but also provide young people a chance to learn new skills that will set them up for the future".

Scott Varley, ManagingDirector, Avant Homes: "Avant Homes is committed to bringing the highest quality in new home building to the Durham area. We currently have four developments in Durham offering an innovative collection of properties that will appeal to a wide range of purchasers. As well as providing high quality new homes, these sites are also helping create jobs and apprenticeship opportunities for local people.

"Broadmeadows will be under construction for the next seven years and during this time we will be working closely with the council and our partners to deliver an outstanding development for the local community."
