Welsh winners revealed in prestigious national housebuilding quality awards

The three best housebuilding site managers in Wales have been recognised for their exemplary commitment to building new houses of outstanding quality, at the regional final of the industry's most prestigious awards scheme.

The regional winners of the Pride in the Job Awards, run by NHBC (National House-Building Council), beat a shortlist of exceptionally skilled site managers to take the title in their categories. Their success was recognised last Friday (14 October) at a ceremony held at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff. Chosen from over 13,000 site managers nationwide working on projects registered with NHBC, the UK's leading new-home warranty and insurance provider, they will now represent Wales at the competition's grand final in January, hoping to secure their place as the nation's best housebuilder. The winners are:

Michael Thomas, of South Meadow Homes Ltd

Michael won the Small Builder category for his Gibbas Way development in Pembroke; a regular face at Pride in the Job, Michael has won the Regional award for the small category ten times in the last eleven years, maintaining and improving standards on site.

Steven Wyman, of Anwyl Construction Company Ltd

Steven won the Medium Builder category for his work on the St Francis Park site in Prestatyn; Steve worked hard on a tricky mixed-tenure site to deliver much needed social housing to the community as a priority, despite this being a less practical approach to scheduling the build sequence.

Syd James, of Redrow Homes South Wales

Syd won the Large Builder category title for his Glynderwen Meadows site in Oakdale, Gwent; a manger who constantly develops new ideas to help his team deliver homes of excellent quality, the foundation and substructure work on Syd's new site is the best ever seen in the region by the judging panel.

Pride in the Job is the only awards scheme to reward site managers for the unique contribution they make to the housebuilding process, being responsible for delivering high quality homes by directing projects from start to finish.

Pete Watton, NHBC Regional Director for Wales, said:

"Pride in the Job has been instrumental in raising the build quality of new homes in the UK for over three decades, with housebuilders now routinely striving for perfection in their work. A Pride in the Job award at any level marks the recipient out as a top performer, showing their true diligence and commitment to producing the best quality homes possible, but to win a Regional title demonstrates something just that little bit special."
