Supreme Winners 2009

On Friday 8th January 2010, NHBC revealed the four Pride in the Job Supreme winners 2009 at a glittering Gala ceremony held at the Lancaster London hotel.

Dunlop Homes celebrated their first ever Supreme win by Philip McCullough. William Davis won both runner up and Supreme winner in the medium category seeing Tony Armson take the winning title for the second year in a row. Ballymore Properties scooped the multi-storey prize for Lou Apcevski's site in Hayes - a well deserved first Supreme win for the company and David Bullock of Persimmon Homes East Wales reigns Supreme for the second year running for his site in Pentwyn, Cardiff.

Small category
Philip McCullough of Dunlop Homes won the Regional award in the small category for his site at Aldergrange in Newtownards in Co. Down. Philip's site consists of high specification detached properties with a mix of brick render and stonework on the external finishes. The judges were impressed with the high quality of the internal finishes and the tidiness on site. Philip wants to achieve a high standard and that is clearly demonstrated on site.

Medium category
Tony Armson of William Davis won the Medium Category Regional Award for his site at Cawston Fields, Rugby In 2008 Tony became the Supreme Winner in the medium category and when receiving his award on stage spoke about achieving 'the holy grail'. This year Tony has continued to make improvements on this site and the NHBC inspectors were especially impressed with his detailed brick and cavity work. Tony and his team also demonstrated attention to detail across all trades on site and great teamwork was clearly evident during NHBC visits. This is a well deserved award for a site manager who is always focussed on achieving high standards.

Large category
David Bullock of Persimmon Homes East Wales won the Regional Award in the large builder category for his site at Wyncliffe Gardens in Pentwyn. David is the reigning Supreme Winner 2008 for this site and he has continued to improve and maintain high standards this year. David is proactive in sorting out any issues on site straight away and winning Pride in the Job is in the forefront of his and his teams' minds when on site.

Multi-storey category
Lou Apcevski of Ballymore Properties won the multi-storey category regional award for the High Point Village in Hayes. This vast site consists of a hotel and both social and private use dwellings in a town centre. Lou knows every single detail about the build which the judges found very impressive. The external wall detailing is second to none and it's clear that Lou lives and breathes his job as a site manager.

Runners up

Small category
Raphael Condon of Wilburn Homes won the Regional Award in the small builder category for the site at Braes of Balnagowan in Nethy Bridge. Raphael works on a mixed dwelling site of detached, semi detached and terraced houses, with some shared ownership properties. He has a thorough approach to site management and works alongside the tradesmen. The judges were very impressed with the slating work, as well as the paving. It's a common theme amongst Pride in the Job winners have excellent attention to detail and this Wilburn Homes site is a clear example of this.

Medium category
Martin Bottomley of William Daviswon the Regional award in the medium category for his site at Morledge in Matlock. Martin has moved up the ranks of Pride in the Job quickly, from a Quality Award last year, to Regional winner this year. The judges really noticed a major improvement on site and were very impressed with the external appearance, blockwork and superstructure. Martin has also put a process in place to protect materials and store them correctly, which contributed to this well deserved win.

Large category
Bill Hughes of Miller Homes North West won the North West regional award in the large builder category for his site at Scholars Way in St Helens, Merseyside. A veteran of Pride in the Job, Bill thinks about how to differentiate his site every year to ensure the Regional Award is his. A great teacher, Bill volunteers to share best practices with the industry and he is a great credit to Miller Homes. Working with a challenging roof structure on his current site, Bill has interpreted the drawings and executed them with a high level of workmanship. A man who is never complacent and always striving to win, Bill is a very deserved winner this year.

Multi-storey category
Bob Burgess of Barratt Bristol won the Regional Award in the multi-storey category for The Zone site at Temple Quay in Bristol. The plumbing and services impressed the judges on this regeneration project in central Bristol. Bob lives and breathes his job, and his enthusiasm for high standards has been passed on to all of his team. The attention to detail demonstrated on site, especially in the fire stopping and sounds proofing, make this a well deserved award.
