UK new house-building statistics - February 2006 17/03/06
Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that the number of UK applications to build new homes in February 2006 increased when compared with figures for February last year.
In February 2006 15,654 applications were made to build new homes in the UK in the combined public and private sectors, showing a seven per cent increase on the same month in 2005 (14,678). Private sector applications for the month were 13,981, showing a 17 per cent increase on February 2005 (11,917). There were 1,673 UK housing association applications, showing a 39 per cent decrease on February of the previous year (2,761).
Imtiaz Farookhi, NHBC Chief Executive, says: "The number of applications to build new homes in February was strong when compared to the same month last year. In addition, our statistics show that the number of applications for the private and social sectors during January and February was up 21 per cent on the same period last year."
New build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 12,975 in February 2006, a nine per cent increase on the same month last year (11,939).
Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 439 new homes were sold each day during February 2006, a nine per cent decrease on the same month last year (482).
