
UK New house-building statistics: July 2005 15/07/05
Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that the number of UK applications to build new homes in July 2005 decreased when compared with figures for July last year.
In July 2005, 17,112 applications were made to start new homes in the UK in the combined public and private sectors, showing an eight per cent decrease on the same month in 2004 (18,518). Private sector applications for the month were 14,056, showing a 13 per cent decrease on July 2004 (16,160). There were 3,056 UK housing association applications, showing a 30 per cent increase on July of the previous year (2,358). Imtiaz Farookhi, Chief Executive of NHBC, says: "NHBC statistics show that, despite the decrease in the number of starts in July, overall the number of new homes started this year are almost on a par with last year. To date 110,789 new homes have been started by house builders, just one per cent below the figure for the same period in 2004 (112,395)." New build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 13,484 in July 2005, a 3 per cent decrease on the same month last year (13,879). Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 611 new homes were sold each day during July 2005, a five per cent decrease on the same month last year (646).
