NHBC Announce UK Supreme Winners in Pride in the Job Awards 13/01/07

Three site managers have been awarded the ultimate accolade of UK's best house-building site manager in the grand finals of NHBC's Pride in the Job competition. After a year of rigorous judging, the site managers have made it through three rounds of the competition and beaten over 18,000 site managers to take the Supreme Award titles. They were presented with their awards by TV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Carol Smillie tonight at a Gala ceremony in London.

The three Supreme winners are:

Bill Hughes of Miller Homes North West Ltd won the Supreme Award in the large builder category. This is the fourth year in a row Bill has won the Supreme award - this year it was for his outstanding site management of `Greenwood', a new homes development made up of 37 detached properties in Manchester.

Alan Cameron of Scottish developer Cameron & Paterson won his first ever Supreme Award in the small to medium builder category. With over a quarter of century working in the industry Alan won the award for his management of prestigious new homes development Castle Leys in Inverness.

Stephen Vorres of Taylor Woodrow Construction, and reigning title holder of Supreme Award in the multistorey category, held on to the accolade again this year. Stephen's exceptional site management of a high profile 477 apartment at Victoria Wharf in Cardiff impressed the PIJ judges.

In recognition of the high standards site manager must achieve to make it to the final Pride in the Job, Award were also presented to runners up in each of the builder categories:

Mike Crawford of George Wimpey Bristol won the runner up award in the large builder category for his site Meadow Brook, West Ashton Road in Trowbrdge Wiltshire.

Chris Strong of the Wickford Development company, and 2006 Supreme winner, won the runner up title in the small to medium builder category for his site Woodlands Park, Great Dumow in Essex.

Runner up in the multi-storey category was Frank Sime of Berkeley Homes Central London for his site Chelsea Bridge Wharf, Queenstown in London.

Speaking at the awards, NHBC's Chief Executive, Imtiaz Farookhi said; "The winner of the 2006 Pride in the Job Supreme Award embodies the ethos of Pride in the Job and by his example is helping to encourage site managers within his company and the industry as a whole to raise their standards.

"This commitment to excellence will undoubtedly help the industry to meet the unprecedented challenges ahead, including the Government's recently announced policy to achieve zero carbon homes by 2016.

"There is no question that this is an extremely ambitious target which will require hard work, drive and a real determination if it is to be met. And excellence in site management will be even more important in the future than it has been in the past in order for us to meet the challenge."

Pride in the Job rewards site managers who demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism in every aspect of their work on site, from their organisation of the site to the quality controls in place. As one of the most intense and celebrated competitions in the industry, Pride in the Job is famous for establishing its winners as the best in their field.

Multistorey - site manager in either of the above categories on structures above 3 storeys.
