UK NEW HOUSE BUILDING STATISTICS: NOVEMBER 2003
Statistics released today by NHBC show UK applications to build new homes increased by one per cent in November 2003 when compared with figures for November last year.
In November 2003 14,459 applications to start new homes in the UK were made for the combined public and private sectors, up one per cent on the same month in 2002 (14,310). Private sector starts for the month were 12,967 showing a very slight decrease on November 2002 (13,014). There were 1,492 UK housing association applications, a 15 per cent increase on November of the previous year (1,296).
Imtiaz Farookhi, chief executive of NHBC, says: "NHBC statistics show that in the first 11 months of the year, registrations were up on last year. Private registrations have increased by four percent to date and housing association starts have risen in excess of 20 per cent when compared to last years figures. We hope that this strong growth continues into the forthcoming year. "
New build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 17,059 in November 2003, a six per cent increase on the same month last year (16,122).
Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 603 new homes were sold each day during November 2003, a six per cent increase on the same month last year (569).
