UK NEW HOUSE BUILDING STATISTICS: APRIL 2004
Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that the number of UK applications to build new homes in April 2004 decreased when compared with figures for April last year.
In April 2004 14,207 applications were made to start new homes in the UK by the combined public and private sectors, showing a four per cent decrease on the same month in 2003 (14,753). Private sector starts for the month dropped to 12,239 showing a three per cent decrease on April 2003 (12,611). There were 1,968 UK housing association applications, an eight per cent decrease on April of the previous year (2,142).
Imtiaz Farookhi, chief executive of NHBC, says: "Despite a decrease in the number of applications to start new homes in April, NHBC statistics show that registrations so far this year are on a par with registrations for the same period last year. Furthermore the average number of new homes sold each day in April show an increase of almost a quarter on April 2003 figures. "
New build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 13,917 in April 2004, a three per cent increase on the same month last year (13,512).
Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 619 new homes were sold each day during April 2004, a 23 per cent increase on the same month last year (503).
