UK NEW HOUSE BUILDING STATISTICS: AUGUST 2004
Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that the number of UK applications to build new homes in August 2004 decreased slightly when compared with figures for August last year.
In August 2004 15,538 applications were made to start new homes in the UK by the combined public and private sectors, showing a two per cent decrease on the same month in 2003 (15,914). Private sector starts for the month decreased to 13,760, a six per cent drop on August 2003 (14,700). There were 1,778 UK housing association applications, a 46 per cent increase on August of the previous year (1,214).
Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 482 new homes were sold each day during August 2004, a six per cent increase on the same month last year (454).
Imtiaz Farookhi, Chief Executive of NHBC, says: "Despite a decrease in August in the number of applications to start new homes, NHBC statistics show that the number of registrations so far this year are up eight per cent on last year. Furthermore the average number of new homes sold each day this year compared with 2003 continues to rise and shows an overall increase of nine per cent, indicating a continued demand for new homes."
New build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 12,826 in August 2004, a three per cent increase on the same month last year (12,454).
