UK New House Building Statistics - August 2005 27/09/05
Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that new build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 13,166 in August 2005, a 3 per cent increase on the same month last year (12,826).
Whilst the figures show that there were 13,639 applications to start new homes in August, a decrease of 12 per cent on the same month last year (15,538), within this total there were 2,222 UK housing association applications, showing a 25 per cent increase on August of the previous year (1,778). Additional information from NHBC shows that an average of 493 new homes were sold each day during August 2005, a two per cent increase on the same month last year (482). Imtiaz Farookhi, Chief Executive of NHBC, says: "NHBC statistics show that social housing registrations remain strong and overall the number of new homes started in the UK remains relatively stable. However, the rate of sales during the current financial year has been lower than last year, and some builders are anticipating a reduction in sales for the financial year as a whole." Note to editors: NHBC statistics are based almost exclusively on information relating to its 19,000 (approx.) registered house builders who construct around 85% of the new homes built in the UK. As such they represent a unique source of detailed, up-to-date information on new home construction and the house building industry.
