UK New House Building Statistics - November 2005 14/12/05

Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that the number of UK applications to build new homes in November 2005 increased when compared with figures for November last year.

In November 2005 17,127 applications were made to build new homes in the UK in the combined public and private sectors, showing a 12 per cent increase on the same month in 2004 (15,354).

Private sector starts for the month were 14,092, showing a small increase on November 2004 (14,030). There were 3,035 UK housing association applications, showing a 129 per cent increase on November of the previous year (1,324).

Imtiaz Farookhi, Chief Executive of NHBC, says: "Our statistics show a substantial increase in UK housing association applications during November. Furthermore so far this year there have been 28,388 housing association applications, a 42 per cent increase on the same period last year. The increase is primarily due to increased government funding to deliver more affordable housing over the next two years through Housing Associations."

Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 539 new homes were sold each day during November 2005, a 1 per cent increase on the same month last year (534).

  • NHBC statistics are based almost exclusively on information relating to its 19,000 (approx.) registered house builders who construct around 85% of the new homes built in the UK. As such they represent a unique source of detailed, up-to-date information on new home construction and the house building industry.
