
UK new house-building statistics - April 2006 22/05/06
Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that the number of UK applications to build new homes in April 2006 increased when compared with figures for April last year.
In April 2006 13,894 applications were made to build new homes in the UK in the combined public and private sectors, showing a 12 per cent increase on the same month in 2005 (12,381). Private sector applications for the month were 11,496, showing a 13 per cent increase on April 2005 (10,154). There were 2,398 UK housing association applications, showing an eight per cent increase on April of the previous year (2,227).
Imtiaz Farookhi, NHBC Chief Executive, says: "The number of applications to build new homes in the UK increased in April when compared to the same month last year. The greatest increases were evident in Wales, Greater London, Yorkshire and the Humber."
New build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 13,467 in April 2006, a three per cent decrease on the same month last year (13,860).
Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 560 new homes were sold each day during April 2006, a nine per cent increase on the same month last year (515).
