UK new house-building statistics - July 2006 25/08/06

Statistics released today by NHBC reveal that the number of UK applications to build new homes in July 2006 increased when compared with figures for July last year.

 

In July 2006 17,616 applications were made to build new homes in the UK in the combined public and private sectors, showing a three per cent increase on the same month in 2005 (17,112). Private sector applications for the month were 13,990, showing little change on July 2005 (14,056). There were 3,626 UK housing association applications, showing a 19 per cent increase on July of the previous year (3,056).

Imtiaz Farookhi, NHBC Chief Executive, says: "NHBC's latest figures show that the number of applications to start new homes, particularly in the private sector, remains strong. So far this year, NHBC has received 102,348 applications to start new homes in the private sector, an increase of ten per cent on the same period last year."

New build completions for the combined public and private sectors totalled 13,407 in July 2006, a one per cent decrease on the same month last year (13,484).

Additional information from NHBC reveals that an average of 656 new homes were sold each day during July 2006, a seven per cent increase on the same month last year (611).
