NHBC has appointed Richard Lankshear to the newly-created role of Innovation Manager to help support the industry in relation to non-conventional construction, including modern methods of construction (MMC).

Richard will take up the role in response to rapidly growing interest amongst many house builders and developers looking to increase MMC output.

A chartered structural engineer, Richard has worked in consultancy, business development and strategic marketing before joining NHBC in 2016 from Tata Steel. As part of the senior management team in Technical Services, his previous role at NHBC was Senior Area Technical Manager with responsibility for the Commercial Building Control and Land Quality Endorsement services.

Last year NHBC launched the MMC Hub – an online portal that lists building systems accepted as meeting NHBC Standards and provides an application facility for manufacturers to submit their systems for an assessment.

Commenting on his appointment Richard said: “I am very pleased to take on this new position which focusses on this ever-growing market.

"For many years NHBC has supported the industry in relation to embracing innovative forms of construction. Because our approach to acceptance of MMC/off-site construction is rigorous it provides confidence to all concerned and I look forward to working with housebuilders as the sector continues to evolve."

NHBC’s Head of Standards, Innovation and Research Neil Smith added: “MMC is a key area for everyone involved in housebuilding and Richard’s appointment will help NHBC add additional value in supporting builders and developers within this field."
