Striving towards a more inclusive workplace

We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) strategy is focused on providing a shared direction and commitment for the organisation to respect and value our diverse workforce and continue to build a more inclusive workplace.

One way we are moving towards a more inclusive workplace is through Employee Networks - voluntary, employee-led groups that provide a safe, supportive space for under-represented colleagues and their allies.

What are Employee Networks?

Our Employee Networks are more than just support groups; they work proactively to educate, advocate and connect to foster inclusion and drive positive change. By amplifying diverse voices and leading on initiatives, our Employee Networks help us bring our whole selves to work and make NHBC a better, more inclusive place for everyone.

Every network is affiliated with an external charity that supports the wider community they represent, extending our impact beyond NHBC.

What our Employee Networks do

  • Provide a safe space for members and allies to connect and share experiences.
  • Raise awareness, challenge barriers and promote allyship through events and campaigns.
  • Advise and guide NHBC on inclusion-related issues and opportunities.
  • Support personal and professional development of members.
  • Celebrate the richness and diversity of our workforce in authentic, meaningful ways.

Our networks

Our Employee Networks are at the heart of our inclusive culture, creating safe, supportive communities where voices are heard, barriers are challenged and everyone can thrive.

Championing ability, not limitation.

We work to create a workplace where colleagues with disabilities and long-term health conditions, both visible and invisible, are valued, included and empowered to thrive. We raise awareness, share lived experiences, remove stigma and help equip managers and teams to confidently support diverse abilities. By challenging barriers and driving equity, we enable everyone to succeed.

Proud to be you.

We advocate for a workplace where LGBTQ+ colleagues feel safe, seen and celebrated for who they are. Through visible leadership, education and allyship, we champion equality, challenge discrimination and foster a culture where everyone can bring their whole self to work. Together, we’re building an NHBC that is inclusive and attractive to the LGBTQ+ community.

Championing racial equity, celebrating cultural diversity.

We strive to make NHBC a place where colleagues from all racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds feel welcomed, respected and empowered. We raise awareness, challenge inequality, and support diverse representation across the business and industry. By embedding inclusion and equity into everything we do, we help NHBC reflect and serve the diverse communities we work in.

Empowering women, shaping the future.

Focused on gender equality, we're here to support and connect women across NHBC, fostering confidence, development and opportunity in an industry that’s still male-dominated. Through advocacy, education and allyship, we help remove barriers and create a culture where women feel heard, valued, and equipped to reach their full potential, building a stronger, more inclusive NHBC for everyone.

NHBC is a signatory of the Race at Work Charter

NHBC has joined with over 900 employers in signing up to the Race at Work Charter, an initiative designed for businesses to collectively commit to improving equal opportunities for Black, Asian, Mixed Race and ethnically diverse employees in the UK. Launched in 2018, the Race at Work Charter builds on the work of the 2017 McGregor-Smith Review, which found that people from these ethnically diverse backgrounds are still underemployed, underpromoted and under-represented at senior levels. The Race at Work Charter is composed of seven principal calls to action and signing up means taking practical steps to ensure we are tackling barriers that ethnic minority people face in recruitment and progression.
