Shared owners
Shared ownership homes can be covered by our Buildmark or Buildmark Choice policies and shared owners directly benefit from the cover.

Do you have policy cover?
As a shared owner, your housing provider (eg your housing association, local authority or registered provider who is the landlord of your shared ownership lease) will be able to confirm whether your property is covered by our Buildmark or Buildmark Choice policy.
Find your policy documents
Your housing provider should provide you with a copy of your policy documents before you purchase your home. If you or your housing provider cannot find your policy documents, we can help you. If you have the policy number, you can download your policy booklet now.
If you do not have your policy number, or need a copy of the insurance certificate or policy schedule, please contact our Customer Services team for help via the details below.

Problems with your new home?
- Please contact your housing provider first to report any issues with your home (unless you have made alternative arrangements with your housing provider or NHBC).
- Please keep a copy of any correspondence and a note of any calls in case you need to refer to anything in future.
Depending on the terms of your shared ownership lease, your housing provider may make a claim under the NHBC policy or need to arrange for repairs within a reasonable time. If they do neither, please contact us directly and we may be able to help if the problem is covered by the terms of the policy.
If your housing provider waives their right to make a claim, or has asked you to make the claim yourself, or you now own 100% of your home, then please contact us directly and we may be able to help if the problem is covered by the terms of the policy.
