Background

Pakhi studied Economics at A Level and found it interesting so decided to pursue the subject for her degree at Lancaster University. Following a placement year at a credit ratings firm she decided to apply for NHBC’s Business Graduate Programme.

Joining NHBC’s Business Graduate Programme

Pakhi joined the programme in September 2024. She explained “I wanted to apply to the programme as it seemed like a great next step for my career. The application process was quite different, especially the group activity I took part in during the assessment centre.”

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

As part of the programme graduates get to experience working in four different areas of the organisation: Standards, Innovation and Research, Underwriting, Commercial Services and Claims Operations.

Pakhi is currently working in Claims Operations. She said “Being in the Claims department has been really interesting. I have enjoyed learning more about the processes involved and helping homeowners with their enquiries.”

How has NHBC supported you?

Throughout the two-year programme NHBC provides the tools, resources and support graduates need to learn and develop.

Pakhi added “I particularly liked the rotational aspect of this programme. I think this will allow me to develop a good understanding of the different roles and responsibilities involved in each area and give me a solid foundation for a career in underwriting. I was also able to highlight any areas I really wanted to develop; for me this included my presentation skills.”

Why did you want to work at NHBC?

Pakhi said “I wanted to join NHBC as I felt I would learn a lot, be supported and be able to make progress in my career. All through the programme I have been able to develop my professional skills and learn more about insurance.”
