Background

Tygwr had enjoyed a variety of subjects at A Level and so chose to study a course with a multidisciplinary nature. After completing his degree in Geography and Global Development at the University of East Anglia he wanted to work for an organisation that aligned with his values.

Joining NHBC’s Business Graduate Programme

Tygwr wanted to start his career and also keep working on his own development. He felt that he would get these opportunities through the NHBC Business Graduate Programme. His application was successful and he joined in September 2024.

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

As part of the programme graduates get to experience working in four different areas of the organisation: Standards, Innovation and Research, Underwriting, Commercial Services and Claims Operations.

Tygwr said “Working in Claims has given me the opportunity to help homeowners become more aware of where they can get advice related to their ongoing issues. I thought I might find this challenging but the in-depth training I’ve received makes me feel more at ease when we are handling claims on the phone.”

How has NHBC supported you?

Throughout the two-year programme NHBC provides the tools, resources and support graduates need to learn and develop.

Tygwr explained “I feel like I have had a lot of support, even before I started. When I applied for the programme the process was straightforward and the assessment centre was engaging and quite different to other companies I had applied to. I am also looking forward to developing my critical thinking, communication and presentation skills during the programme.”

Why did you want to work at NHBC?

Tygwr said “I was particularly interested in the scope and impact NHBC has and I wanted to learn more about building standards. The social awareness of the organisation also appealed to me as someone who believes in an equitable and fair society.”
