In looking at the Pride in the Job 2022 Quality Award winners, we were delighted and heartened to discover that 25% of the winners were studying or had recently completed an NVQ with us. This link between further study and success in the competition is significant and demonstrates the value of additional study in on-the-job performance.
Hear from one of our Quality Award winning NVQ candidates
Having previously served in the Royal Marines, Tom Jupp started as a trainee assistant site manager with Vistry South West in September 2019. With his work ethic and eye for detail, Tom was quickly promoted and, in his first year as a site manager, won a Quality Award for his work at the Monument View development in Wellington, where he’s responsible for building Bovis and Linden properties.
He began studying for an NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management – Residential Development with NHBC in July 2021 and has already completed the qualification.
He says:
“I’ve really enjoyed being able to put all I’ve learnt into an NVQ, being able to show how much I know about my role and what I do. I’m very proud to have gained a qualification so early in my construction career.
“Studying for the NVQ has given me the ability to see what areas I need to focus on. I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone but it’s also given me the confidence to move onto my Level 7 and in due course go after promotion to area build manager.
“I think the NVQ contributed to my success in Pride in the Job because I was able to use what I learnt from the qualification to create a more efficient, quality-driven and organised site.”
Having recently completed my Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Residential Development) I can honestly say that it has benefited my role. The course was well explained from start to finish and communication was clear throughout.
The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Residential Development) covers all aspects of site management and is perfect for people working in an assistant site manger role like me. My assessor worked around my busy schedule and offered good quality feedback and guidance.
The support from my assessor was second to none and he was always available when needed. Without a doubt he made the whole thing a lot less complicated and I think that’s the reason I completed it on the time frame.
It was a good collaboration with my assessor and I want to say thanks for his support throughout this journey. Without a doubt, my assessor has added a lot to my construction knowledge - from building standards to legal responsibilities on health and safety for individuals and site conditions.
I found the NVQ particularly tough with getting the knowledge out of my head onto paper but with the help of my assessor once I started the course I completed it in 3 months.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course from start to finish and the help and guidance from the assessors is excellent.
