Job summary:
We’re looking for a Senior Litigation Counsel to join our Legal team and play a key role in managing a broad range of commercial litigation matters. This is an exciting opportunity for a generalist commercial litigator with strong High Court litigation experience to manage complex disputes, including high-value claimant recovery claims. Working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation, you’ll provide trusted legal advice, support strategic priorities and help resolve disputes in a commercially focused way.
What you’ll be doing:
- Managing a varied caseload of commercial litigation matters, including complex financial recovery claims through the Technology & Construction Court
- Leading primarily claimant litigation, bringing recovery actions on behalf of NHBC and its group companies
- Conducting litigation from initial assessment through to settlement, judgment or award, including court proceedings, mediation, arbitration and adjudication
- Providing practical legal advice on liability, coverage and dispute resolution strategies
- Supporting wider legal matters, including policy wording queries, consumer complaints and other advisory issues
- Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and providing trusted, commercially focused legal guidance
- Working with external lawyers, insurers, reinsurers, panel solicitors and counsel where required
- Supporting the development of junior members of the Legal team and contributing to knowledge sharing
What we’re looking for:
- A qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales with a current practising certificate and 5+ years’ post-qualification experience (PQE)
- Proven experience managing High Court litigation and commercial disputes
- Experience as a generalist commercial litigator, with the ability to manage a broad range of contentious matters rather than a highly specialised area
- Experience handling claimant litigation and recovery claims would be highly desirable
- Strong technical legal knowledge combined with sound commercial judgement
- Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice for stakeholders
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to work with senior leaders
- A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach with the ability to work autonomously
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
What we offer
Our benefits package includes:
- 27 days annual leave + bank holidays
- holiday purchase scheme
- enhanced pension scheme (up to 10.5%)
- life assurance
- subsidised private medical insurance
- employee discounts platform
- two days volunteer leave
- enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption leave and pay for all new parents
+ many more!
