Job Role: Reserving Actuary

Salary: £80,000 - £110,000 + 10% performance bonus

Working Location: Nationwide

This role can be based in either Milton Keynes or London; flexible working arrangements can be discussed

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

Job summary:

As a Reserving Actuary at NHBC, you’ll play a key role in assessing and reporting our reserves across our 10-year new home warranty and insurance portfolio. Working closely with the Head of Reserving, you’ll provide insight and recommendations that support senior decision-making across the business, while contributing to areas including business planning, pricing, capital modelling and reinsurance. This is a great opportunity for a qualified actuary with strong reserving experience to work on interesting technical challenges, influence key business decisions and help shape and improve our reserving processes.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and contribute to quarterly updates of Technical Provisions, including analysis and recommendations.
  • Communicate key reserving insights and outcomes to senior stakeholders and committees.
  • Support regulatory, reinsurance and business planning reporting.
  • Provide reserve-related input into capital modelling, pricing and strategic initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Head of Reserving to plan and deliver the reserving cycle.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reserving processes and drive efficiencies.
  • Build strong relationships across the business and mentor and support junior team members.

What we’re looking for:

  • A qualified Actuary, or equivalent, with several years’ reserving experience in general insurance, either in-house or consultancy.
  • Strong knowledge of actuarial techniques, market practice and the general insurance environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with experience engaging and presenting to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong prioritisation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A proactive, resilient and innovative approach, with a willingness to improve existing processes.
  • Strong IT and data skills, ideally including SQL and Snowflake.
  • Experience with Python, R or similar would be desirable.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent actuarial qualification.
