NHBC celebrates as bricklaying and site supervision apprentices qualify

NHBC, the UK’s leading new home warranty and insurance provider, is celebrating its first five apprentices achieving fully qualified status. Tom Warner of LTW Developments, Kai Green of Redrow and Nick Cox and Reece Osbourne of Bloor Homes have all successfully completed their bricklaying apprenticeships at the NHBC Training Hub in Tamworth, while Brad Lines of Redrow has achieved his Construction Site Supervisor (CSS) apprenticeship.

Since NHBC became a registered apprenticeship provider in 2020, 343 apprentices have progressed through its programmes. The courses have been designed with input from across the industry to ensure they meet the needs of employers and employees alike.

NHBC Qualifications Manager, Geoff Mann comments: “Apprenticeships in bricklaying and site supervision are fantastic pathways into a rewarding and well-paid career in the house-building industry and we’re delighted to see Tom, Kai, Nick, Reece and Brad achieve fully qualified status.

“Through our trade and technical training and qualifications, we are committed to supporting the next generation of house builders, equipping them with the skills to build high quality new homes.”

Tom Warner of LTW Developments said: “I’ve enjoyed being at the Hub, there’s lots of space to work and there’s always someone around to help you. I think it’s more like a real site than a college and I’ve been able to go on to site and apply the things I’ve learned straight away.”

Ken Warner, Director at LTW Developments said: ‘I knew Tom wanted to do something more practical and construction could offer him that opportunity. Having heard about the bricklaying apprenticeship through NHBC, it felt like things had fallen into place at just the right time. It’s been a great experience for him, and the apprenticeship was ideal for someone who was new to the construction industry. I feel confident he now has the necessary skills to progress his career.”

Prinal Shah, Apprenticeship and New Entrants Manager at Redrow said: “Being our first Redrow bricklaying apprentice to achieve his full qualification through the NHBC Training Hub is a fantastic achievement for Kai. Credit goes to both Kai and NHBC for their ongoing support in assisting Redrow in ensuring Kai has the correct knowledge, skills and behaviours to have a successful career in bricklaying.

“This intensive apprenticeship programme is proving to be the right choice to help individuals looking to enter this area of construction, as well as support the skills shortage the industry currently faces.”

He continues: “Everyone at Redrow is delighted for Brad and being the first finisher is a testament to all the hard work he has done to achieve this qualification. The Level 4 CSS apprenticeship has been a great option for those looking to progress to a Site Supervisor role at a time when we not only want to get more people into construction but also support those already in the industry to progress.”

Following the success of its Tamworth Training Hub, NHBC opened a second training facility in Newcastle in December 2022. Its Cambridge and Hull Training Hubs will be unveiled soon.
