Technical Building Consultant
Salary: £40,000 – £43,700 + 6% performance bonus

Job summary:
In this role, you will act as a specialist consultant to our internal Building Surveyors and Technical Teams, providing expert advice and assessments across a wide range of house type approvals within the housing sector.
By applying your technical knowledge, you’ll help identify and manage key risks early on reducing the likelihood of future issues or warranty claims. You'll work closely with NHBC Surveyors to support both Warranty and Building Control projects, delivering an efficient and effective service in line with standards, regulations, and customer expectations.
What you’ll be doing
- Acting as Project Manager on warranty only projects, manage and co-ordinate the input of other specialists in the TRM project team.
- Manage a number of key House Type Approval programmes, managing SLA, further investigation, adapt to solutions and to delivery.
- Provide expert knowledge, and professional and technical advice on NHBC Standards and codes and standards, in order to guide them towards compliant solutions that present an acceptable technical risk to NHBC.
- Engage with other NHBC staff to ensure that any regulatory risk is also managed by having a good working knowledge of the Building Regulations.
- Develop and implement bespoke, dynamic, project based risk management plans in order to mitigate technical risks identified.
- Acting as Project Manager on warranty only projects, manage and co-ordinate the input of other specialists in the TRM project team.
What we’re looking for
- Good understanding of why and how buildings fail and result in claims.
- Ability to identify potential failure points in building designs (likelihood and impact) and a knowledge of opportunities available to mitigate issues.
- Understanding of forensic investigations of buildings, defect identification and repair
- Good relevant building / Construction techniques.
- IT literate across a range of software programmes – Microsoft Office.
- Proactive, motivated and driven, with the ability to achieve results through the efforts of others.
- Good communicator with appropriate interpersonal skills, planning and organisational skills.
- Working knowledge of NHBC processes, systems and programmes.
