This is our biggest ever trainee recruitment drive, creating new pathways into the house-building industry. We are recruiting for up to 30 trainee roles nationwide, offering opportunities for people from all backgrounds to begin a rewarding career in construction. This initiative is part of our commitment to addressing the industry’s skills shortage and supporting the Government’s pledge to build 1.5 million new homes.

Your future career

You can build a long and rewarding career in construction, supported by structured training, professional qualifications and expert mentoring. You’ll have clear pathways to progress within NHBC, shaping the future of house building while developing your own expertise.

Trainee roles available

Trainee Building Inspector

Support the inspection of new homes to ensure compliance with NHBC Standards and Building Regulations. This hands-on learning opportunity combines on-the-job experience with a six-month training programme delivered by the NHBC Training Academy. You’ll be based from home and work within your local area, assisting experienced inspectors during site visits.

Trainee Building Surveyor

Embark on a four-year, fully funded programme combining on-the-job training and study with the University of Wolverhampton. Trainees achieve a BSc (Hons) in Building Control with a clear pathway to a long-term career as a Registered Building Inspector and Chartered Building Control Surveyor. You will work as part of a regional team and develop the technical expertise needed to ensure new homes meet NHBC Standards and Building Regulations.

Trainee Technical Building Consultant

Work alongside design teams to assess building plans and materials, ensuring compliance with NHBC Standards. A seven-month structured training and mentoring programme led by NHBC's Training Academy builds technical expertise in construction risk and design. Trainees develop towards professional membership opportunities, with clear progression into consultant and senior consultant roles across increasingly complex building projects.

Trainee Construction Quality Analyst

Join our Construction Quality Services team to review build quality, analyse findings and support builders with improvement plans. Through structured training and mentoring, trainees develop cross-industry knowledge in methods, materials and regulations. The role builds expertise in quality assurance and data analysis, creating a strong pathway into senior quality-focused careers.
