Overview

This two-day course provides an in-depth understanding of the health and safety issues to consider when completing lifting operations management, ensuring compliance with Regulation 8 (Organisation of Lifting Operations) of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).  

Upon successful completion, candidates will be able to plan and implement basic lifting operations safely in line with company procedures, British Standards (BS 7121) and other regulatory requirements.

This course is for any principle contractors and contractors who use lifting equipment on site, project, site and assistant site managers or similar roles.

  • Understand and apply LOLER regulations and British Standards (BS 7121) for lifting operations on site.
  • Recognise the roles and responsibilities of all personnel involved in lifting operations, including the appointed persons for planning and supervision and crane operators, slinger signallers and lifting co-ordinators.
  • Why it’s a requirement to have a defined and recorded safe system of work.
  • Understand the selection and use of lifting equipment, including mobile cranes, tower cranes and truck-mounted cranes.
  • Interpret crane duty charts and manufacturers’ guidelines to ensure safe crane operations.
  • Learn how to communicate lifting requirements to relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate common lifting operation risks, including crane stability, structural strength and environmental constraints.
  • Participate in practical exercises, including lift plan development, stability assessments and hands-on lifting operation exercises.
