Celebrating 40 years of building control excellence

For 40 years, our Building Control team has helped customers across England and Wales to build quality homes that meet the Building Regulations. Through comprehensive design checks and site inspections, we’ve been proud to play a key role in raising construction standards and supporting safe, compliant development.

From humble beginnings

When first launched in 1985, the service focused solely on houses up to three storeys. From there, it grew to become the largest independent Approved Inspector service, covering everything from single plots to city skyscrapers, large scale mixed-use schemes and commercial projects. Today, our Building Control team carries out over 800,000 building control inspections each year.

The introduction of the Building Safety Regulator

The introduction of the Building Safety Act 2022 and the creation of the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) were the most significant changes to building control in decades. On 6 April 2024, NHBC Building Control Services Ltd proudly achieved Registered Building Control Approver status under the new regime. More than 400 of our colleagues have also successfully completed the BSR registration process, demonstrating their competence and professionalism as Registered Building Inspectors. Given the scale of the undertaking, this was a major achievement, and we congratulate everyone involved as we celebrate this special 40^th anniversary milestone.

Our ongoing commitment to service, innovation and support

As we move forward, our Building Control team will continue to innovate and uphold the highest standards of technical expertise and integrity - providing customers and homeowners with the assurance of a rigorous, independent third-party check on the design and construction of the UK’s new homes.

The team will continue to support our customers through ongoing regulatory change, including the introduction of the Future Homes Standard legislation and the new Home Energy Model, due to be published in the coming months.
