My name is Shannon Thornthwaite and my job at NHBC is a Senior Underwriting Operations Manager. 

When I first joined underwriting, I was given the opportunity to undertake my certificate in insurance. This was a pivotal step in my career growth within underwriting and provided me the necessary foundations to build upon. 

By starting my career in customer services, I was able to learn who and what NHBC did. I don't believe that I would be where I am today if I didn't start there.

It provided me with extensive knowledge of NHBC and an appreciation of how different teams interact within the business. 

It is a great department to start your career in. It will provide you with the fundamental knowledge of NHBC, skills and opportunities, which are widely used around the business, which in turn would be a positive step in being able to grow and develop within NHBC. 

Another positive aspect from working within CS is you get to meet so many different people around NHBC, which allows you to form a far reaching network, which I feel is key to developing. 

NHBC are committed to growing and developing individuals internally. By starting a career in customer services, you'd be given ample opportunity to learn all about what and why we do it. NHBC and the ability to network with many different departments.
