What does a typical day in your role at NHBC look like and what do you enjoy most about your job?

A typical day as a MPTBC is very varied and can include anything from reviewing technical information for a range of higher risk buildings, collaborating with the internal NHBC team on certain elements of a project, attending meetings with our builder customers and their design teams, or visiting site with our building inspectors.

What attracted you to NHBC and how does working here compare to your previous experiences in the industry?

A friend of mine introduced me to NHBC. She joined the company a few years before I did and was always talking about the company, its people and its values. So, when an opportunity to join arose, I took it and haven’t looked back since.

How does NHBC support your professional development and career growth?

One of NHBC’s values is ‘progressive’, focusing on leading the way in a constantly changing world and industry. There is great focus on holistic training and development, both personally and professionally. This has helped me greatly with the way I approach tasks and challenges, looking at the bigger picture and raising standards. In addition, as NHBC is such a diverse company covering all aspects of house building, there are plenty of career progression opportunities to take advantage of.

What’s one project or achievement you’re particularly proud of since joining NHBC?

I am a mental health first aider and wellbeing champion in my team. Last year, I introduced a lunch time wellbeing activity during our monthly team meetings. This has evolved into different activities where we have enjoyed lunch time walks around the London office area and visiting some of the high-rise building viewing points. This has allowed the team to enjoy spending more time together outside of the office and open up about mental health and wellbeing.

How would you describe NHBC’s culture and what kind of people thrive in this environment?

NHBC has a very inclusive culture and focuses on bringing out the best in people. Being able to work together in a team, internally and externally, and putting aside any differences, whilst creating a supporting community is how people thrive here.
