NHBC Land Quality Endorsement (LQE) team sponsors Brownfield Briefing Awards 2018

On 27 September 2018, NHBC proudly sponsored an award at the Brownfield Briefing Awards, held at the Tower Hotel, London. The event was a spectacular success with a record number of attendees, as well as entries.

The judging panel were so impressed with a number of the entries this year that they decided to present a Special Award to The Avenue project in Chesterfield, for Homes England, Jacobs, VSD Avenue and Turner & Townsend, on which the NHBC LQE team had provided the LQE service. There has only been one previous special award in the 14 year history of the awards and the judges said of The Avenue; ‘It was an example of a long term, large scale, technically and logistically complex project to unlock a fenced-off highly contaminated site, which has been used as an exemplar since inception involving thermal desorption, ex-situ bioremediation and waste sorting. Many lessons have been learned as it progressed, and it has provided valuable practical experience for many in the industry.’ The NHBC LQE team had worked on this project for over 10 years, focusing on the complex environmental and geotechnical challenges of this former coking works.

NHBC sponsored the Best project closure/verification process award, which was won by Vertase FLI. Atkins also received a Highly Commended award for their project.
