11,200 new homes registered in April, reports NHBC

New figures from NHBC have revealed that 11,216 new homes were registered to be built in the UK during the month of April.

7,634 new homes were registered in the private sector in April 2018 (9,350 in 2017), with 3,582 registered in the affordable sector (3,298 in 2017) – in line with the volumes seen in the first quarter of 2018. April 2017 saw a total of 12,648 new home registrations.

In the rolling quarter, between February and April 2018, 36,164 new homes were registered compared to 43,459 in 2017. During this period there were 27,073 new homes registered in the private sector, compared to 31,677 in 2017. 9,091 new homes were registered in the affordable sector, compared to 11,782 in 2017.

Commenting on the latest figures, NHBC Chief Executive Steve Wood said: “April’s new home registration figures are consistent with the monthly volumes already seen during 2018 and despite a challenging start to the year industry confidence is strong.

“As 2018 progresses, NHBC will continue to work with house builders to help them raise the standards of new homes, with a clear focus on delivering quality for residents and buyers.”

During Feb ’18 – April ‘18 the number of NHBC new home registrations was 36,164 compared to 43,459 a year ago.

  • 27,073 were registered in the private sector, compared to 31,677 in the previous year.

Registrations refer to the process of a builder registering a new plot/home to be built in the coming months or weeks, to be covered by NHBC’s ten-year Buildmark warranty. Completions refer to when a new home is completed as indicated by NHBC inspectors.
