39,000 new homes registered in Q2, reports NHBC

Builders registered almost 39,000 new homes in the UK during Q2 2018, according to NHBC’s latest new home registration statistics.

38,978 new homes were registered during the period April – June, a slight decrease of 3% on the 40,313 registered 12 months ago.

There were 26,808 new homes registered in the private sector (28,964 in Q2 2017) and 12,170 registered in the affordable sector (11,349 in Q2 2017).

Regions experiencing overall growth compared to the same period a year ago include Northern Ireland (+49%), the Eastern region (+27%) and Yorkshire & Humberside (+19%).

As the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, NHBC's registration statistics are a lead indicator of the UK’s new homes market.

Commenting on the latest figures, NHBC Chief Executive Steve Wood said: “We have seen some promising numbers coming through, in particular during May and June.

“The demand for new homes across the UK remains strong, so this is encouraging news for the industry and for consumers who are looking to buy a brand new home.”

NHBC UK statistics for Q2 2018 show that

  • During April '18 – June '18 the number of NHBC new home registrations was 38,978 compared to 40,313 a year ago.
  • 26,808 were registered in the private sector, compared to 28,964 in the previous year.
  • 12,170 were registered in the affordable sector, compared to 11,349 in the previous year.

Registrations refer to the process of a builder registering a new plot/home to be built in the coming months or weeks, to be covered by NHBC’s ten-year Buildmark warranty. Completions refer to when a new home is completed as indicated by NHBC inspectors.
